They are like eyes
caught in the act of closing.
They will be wholly themselves
when the shadows meet again.
If you narrow your own
you begin to go with them
into a space lit by new stars
and in that chancy
ambiguous world you would not
know where you had in the end
ended up or even
who it was that had in a
manner of speaking arrived.
